Ultrasound guided breast wire localization
Wire localization is employed to assist your surgeon to easily find an abnormal area in your breast that is not easily felt as a lump on examination.
In this technique, using ultrasound guidance, our radiologist marks the abnormality with a wire that is inserted under your skin into the area of breast that is causing concern. Once the wire is in place, a mammogram will be performed to document the position of the wire. You will take a copy of these images with you to your scheduled surgery. The wire is designed to be held securely in place until your surgical procedure is performed.
